Official school calendar released

 

The official calendar for Academic Year (AY)  2015-2016 of the university is now out. Approved by the university president on September 14, 2015, the calendar will keep the university officials, faculty, non-teaching personnel and students, properly informed and updated on national and local holidays, activites and the latest major events on campus.

16 pass board exam for electrical engineers

A total of 16 graduates of ISAT U passed the  Registered Electrical Engineer (REE)  Licensure Examination given last September 2015. With the 16 new passers, ISAT U posted a passing percentage of 84.21% against the national passing rate of 67.23%. The following are the new registered electrical engineers of ISAT U:

Univ holds tribute to teachers, employees

 

As a way  of honoring teachers and employees who continue to inspire students with their knowledge, skills and commitment, ISAT U marked World Teacher’s Day last Oct. 5 with a Tribute to Teachers and Employees at the ISAT U Covered Gym.

With the theme “Empowering Teachers, Building Sustainable Societies,” the celebration opened with a thanksgiving mass in honor of the teachers and employees.  

This was followed by the program proper  which started with a welcome address from Ms. Losette A. Dela, President of the Student Republic.

Speaking on behalf of the Student Republic, Ms. Dela expressed her never-ending gratitude to the teachers and employees who became sources of wisdom and knowledge with the years spent in the institution.

Dr. Raul F. Muyong also paid tribute to the teachers by giving an inspiring message. 

“Teachers are tasked to shape humanity,” Dr. Muyong said in one of his statements. The university president enumerated the contributions of a teacher to society.

“A man is formed and honed by his teacher. The best gift to be given among teachers is for them to be good and to attend their classes all the time.” He also challenged the teachers to provide quality education to  ISAT U students.

The event also showcased a solidarity dance performed by SR officers and  presentation of students from the different colleges as tribute to the teachers and employees.

In honor of their years of service to the university,  the institution awarded them with plaques of appreciation and recognition .The awardees included the following:

COE, CEA reps bag 1st Mr & Ms ISAT U title

Zesrimar F. Historia of the College of Education (COE) and Joan C. Porras of the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) bagged the first ever title of Mr. and Ms. Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) during the pageant night held on Sept. 1 at the ISAT U Multi-Purpose Gym.

Historia also romped off with the Mr. Photogenic, People’s Choice, Best in Sports Wear and Best in Formal Attire Special Awards. .Porras, on the other hand, won the Ms. Photogenic Award, People’s Choice Award and Best in Formal and Cocktail Attire.

Other winners of the title were Rio Apolinario III (College of Arts and Sciences-CAS) and Rhinae Mae O. Palma (College of Industrial Technology-CIT), 1st runner up;  Christian Arsaga (CIT) and Roma Abelarde (CAS),  2nd runner up; Mharbani B. Ma-ambong (CEA) and Michelle Ann Malabayabas (Miag ao Campus), 3rd runner up; and Christine Jessica D. Martin (COE) with Jetro Tigulo (Miag ao Campus), 4th runner up.

During the competition, the candidates displayed their poise, beauty and intelligence. which was gauged through the interview. Arsaga (CIT) and Malabayabas (Miag ao Campus) nailed the pageant's interview portion.

Adjudged Mr. and Ms. Congeniality, another special award, were Apolinario (CAS) and Palma (CIT).  

For the Minor awards, Ma-ambong (CEA) and Malabayabas (Miag ao Campus) were proclaimed best in production number award; Historia (COE) and Malabayabas (Miagao Campus), best in sports wear competition; Apolinario  (CAS) won the best in formal wear while Porras (CEA) won best in Cocktail attire competition;  and Historia (COE) and Abelarde(CAS),  best in gown and formal attire.

“We might produce national and international beauty queens,” said Dr. Raul F. Muyong, University President, in his speech. The activity, according to Dr. Muyong, is in keeping the university's goal to develop well-rounded individuals through extra-curricular activities.

Alfred Jor el Espinosa, Michelle Marie Monte Gacuma and Rexcel John B. Sorza served as judges.

The new titlists will represent ISAT U  in the  Regional  Search for Mr. and Ms State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA)  in Roxas City, Capiz tentatively scheduled on December 14-18, 2015.

 

Univ installs new president

The Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) formally installed Dr. Raul F. Muyong as its first University President in investiture rites held on Sept. 3.

Dr. Muyong’s investiture, which is four months after he was elected, started at 4:00 p.m. at the ISAT U Multi- Purpose Educational Center.

During the investiture rites, Dr. Manuel A. Sanchez,Jr., VP for Academic Affairs, presented the University President to the academic community while Dr. Mergie C. Gasataya, University Board Secretary, read the Board Resolution of the university president's appointment. . 

Dr.Rex Casiple, CHED, Educational Program Specialist, read the appointment issued by Dr. Patricia B. Licuanan, CHED Chairperson, on behalf of Commissioner Maria Cynthia Rose B. Bautista, Chair-Designate, ISAT U Board of Regents,  

Dr. Casiple also vested the academic robe, academic hood and cap, Imposed the President’s Medallion and  presented the President’s Mace.

On behalf of Dr. Licuanan, Dr. Rex C. Casiple,  also administered the oath taking of the University President.

In his speech, Dr. Muyong expressed his sincere gratitude to the people who helped him including his former professors, friends, colleagues and relatives.

“Now, is a great opportunity for me to serve,” said Dr. Muyong in his investiture address.

Dr. Muyong also thanked the ISAT U community for trusting and believing in him. He is the fourth president of WVCST and upon its conversion  became the first  president of the newly converted university.

Dr. Ma. Eugenita C. Capaciete, gave the greeting on behalf of the campus administrators. Regent Jonathan C. Antiquiera, Regent Leo S. Sombiro and Regent Losette A. Dela, on the other hand, gave their messages representing their respective organizations.

The members of the Search Committe for the WVCST Presidency namely Dr. Emerlinda R. Roman, Dr. Isabela L. Mahler, Prof. Samie M. Billanes, Dr. Joel P. Limson, and Mr. Celso G. Javelosa were also awarded plaques of recognition.

A dinner for all the guests, faculty and staff capped the event. 

 

 

ISAT U fetes university hood key players

The Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) feted five distinguished individuals who served as key players in the educational institution's conversion into a  university in a testimonial dinner. 

Feted and awarded plaques of recognition during the testimonial dinner on August 31 at the Del Rio Hotel, Molo, Iloilo City, were Senator Franklin M. Drilon , Congressman Jerry P. Trenas,  President Emeritus Renato V. Alba, Dr. Luis M. Sorolla Jr., and Dr. Nehema K. Misola.

Due to some personal commitments, Sen. Drilon was represented by Mrs. Eleanor Drilon Gregorio while Cong. Trenas by Mr. Noel Panaguiton.

The recepients and their representatives delivered their testimonial speeches after the awarding.

In her speech, Dr. Misola, Chairperson and Focal Person of the university hood conversion, expressed her joy as she looked back to the challenges the school encountered in its quest for university status.

Dr. Sorolla, the former president of the institution, also expressed his overwhelming joy and gratitude in the achievement of the university status. 

In his opening remarks, Dr. Raul F. Muyong, President, ISAT U, stated the reasons why the ocassion is special. 

"First, we celebrate it as a newly-converted university. Second, it's the Diamond Jubillee of the ISAT U Teacher Education. Third, we have a new President,. The fourth President of the institution and the first President of the University," said Dr. Muyong.

A video about  the institution’s history and its journey towards conversion into a university  was also  presented. 

A candle lighting ceremony in the pool area was also held followed by a fireworks presentation.

A community singing of the new ISAT U hymn, composed by Dr. Sorolla, Jr. and Edgar Jimena, capped the event.

ISAT U to hold Panay-wide Caravan

As a way of celebrating and at the same time informing the people of the four provinces comprising Panay Island that WVCST is now a university, a Panay-wide Caravan will be held on July 25- 26, 2015.

The caravan, which will be  participated in by  the alumni, faculty, employees  and students,  will start at the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) La Paz campus at 7:00 a.m., and will proceed to Pototan Plaza and will stay there until 8:30 a.m.

The caravan’s second stop will be at  Baclayan, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo and will proceed to Ajuy, Sara, part of San Dionisio, and Batad at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at the Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC) in Estancia, Iloilo.

At 1:00 p.m., the caravan will resume passing through the municipalities of Balasan, Pilar, Roxas, Panit-an and Capiz State University (CapSU).

From CapSU, the caravan leaves at 3:00 p.m., and will continue its way through Ivisan, Sapian, Altavas, Batan and Balete. The participants will stay at the Aklan State University (ASU) for the night.

The caravan leaves ASU at 7:00 a.m. and lunch will be at Sibalom, Antique after which, the caravan will pass through San Jose, Dao, Anini-y, and San Jaoquin. Snacks will be served at ISAT U-Miag ao campus.

At 3:30 p.m., the caravan will pass through the municipalities of Guimbal, Tigbauan, and Oton and the districts of Arevalo, Molo, City Proper and the last stop will be ISATU U-La Paz campus.

Alumni and friends are welcome to join the caravan which is also in celebration of the 110th foundation anniversary of the College of Education.

COE to celebrate 75th year

The College of Education (COE) of the University will celebrate its Diamond Jubilee this year with series of activities.

Officially launched on June 22  with a program at the football grounds, various activities are going to be conducted until Sept. 5, which is the highlight of the celebration.

A professional lecture and a raffle draw will be held on July 11, a fun run on July 12, Panay-wide Caravan on July 25-26, and another professional lecture and raffle draw on August 7.

On September 4, a family day to be hosted by the College of Education, sports fest, grand raffle draw, testimonial dinner and the awarding ceremony of the 75 Most Outstanding Teacher Education Alumni will be held.

An alumni homecoming on September 5 will cap the event.

For the ongoing search for the 75 Most Outstanding Teacher Education Alumni, the deadline of submission of the recommendations and applications will be on July 22.

Through its 75 years, the COE has numerous achievements such as producing SUCs Presidents, principals and supervisors and successful alumni in various fields. The COE has also gone through a lot of changes.

The first two-year education course was introduced in 1940 with 102 enrollees. However, due to the war, the program was cut short and was later re-opened in 1946 with 26 students.

In 1959, the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) was offered. This was followed by the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts in 1954.

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts became a shop major of BSIE in 1961. In 1972, Girls Vocational Courses (GVC) were offered providing more knowledge on Home Economics to women which led to the offering of the BSIE major in Home Economics in 1979.

Bachelor of Science in Practical Arts (BSPA) was offered in 1975. The Bachelor of Elementary Education with specialization in Home Economics and Livelihood Education (HELE) degree was offered in 1984.

In 1991, the Board of Trustees approved the offering of the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) with majors in Technology and Home Economics.

By virtue of the Board of Trustees (BOT) Resolution No. 11/12/2001-75, the Diploma in Teaching (DIT) was offered in 2002.

In AY 2003-2004, the Bachelor of Science in Teaching (BST) Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry were transferred from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) to the COE.

This academic year, the Bachelor of Science in Technical Teacher Education (BTTE) was added as its latest  course offering.

 

 

 

Language Dept holds search for ABS-CBN news casting competition rep

 

The Language Department held its search for the representative of La Paz Campus for the upcoming ABS-CBN news casting competition system-wide elimination round.

Held on July 10, 2015, 47 aspiring newscasters from La Paz Campus lined up for the audition at the Speech Laboratory Room.

Each contestant was given the opportunity to read different sample news in Hiligaynon, Tagalog and English.

Of the 47 students, eight were chosen for the second round and one was proclaimed winner.

Divine Hismaña, a first year BS Computer Science student, was chosen as the representative from La Paz campus.

The system-wide competition will be held on July 23, 3015 with one representative coming from the five campuses of the university.

The winner will be trained by the members of the faculty of the Language Department.
