Architecture alumni bag 2018 MADE grand awards

The achievements of the Architecture Department and the College of Industrial Technology continues as three of its alumni won major awards in the 2018 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) Competition.

Mr. Noel Magallanes Elicana and Mr. Roland Facon Llarena, Bachelor of Architecture graduates, bagged two highest awards in the Oil/Acrylic on Canvas Category.  Mr. Elicana was declared as Grand Awardee and  will pocket Php 500 thousand cash prize. On the other hand, Mr Llarena was adjudged as Special Citation Awardee for the same category and will receive Php 30,000.

This is two in a row for ISAT U for the Oil/Acrylic on Canvas Category. Last year John Paul C. Cabanalan, a fellow BS Architecture graduate, won the same award.

For the Water Media on Paper Category, Mr. Alex Pampag Ordoyo bested other contestants for the Grand Prize Award. The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology major in Architectural Drafting graduate will take home the Php 500 thousand prize for the “ruins of war inspired piece”. According to him, the Marawi siege was his inspiration to create awareness on the social issue and to promote its rehabilitation.

Mr. Ordoyo does not only love drawing but learning as well. After finishing his baccalaureate degree, he took up and completed the academic requirements for his Masters of Science in Industrial Education degree. In 2017, he took the TESDA sponsored Animation Class in the day and  also earned a Diploma in Teaching degree while attending night classes.  Currently, he is teaching at Iloilo National High School.

“Dream come true,” was all he said on winning after nine years of participating. “Just be patient and have faith in God. Kapag may tiyaga, may nilaga,” Ordoyo advised to all budding artists.

In a letter, Metrobank Foundation President Aniceto M. Sobrepena said that the three will join the group of outstanding Filipino artists and designers honored by the foundation since 1984.

Aside from cash prizes, the three will also receive a trophy on the awarding ceremony and exhibit opening at Le Pavilion, Pasay City on September 20, 2018.
