Dr. Nehema K. Misola, Vice President for Administration and Finance, presented the initiatives and perspectives of ISAT U on e-commerce during the International Seminar on E-commerce Training at Hangzhou, China on June 26-28, 2017.

The forum was organized by China National E-commerce Vocational Steering Committee (NEVESC) in collaboration with Zhejiang Technical Institute of Economics (ZJTIE), a UNESCO-UNEVOC center . It aims to strengthen the relationship among partner institutions, consulting the e-commerce training for the young students throughout the world.

The delegates were policy makers, prominent entrepreneurs, and professionals in e-commerce. They discussed on how to share good educational resources and to train and reserve talents to meet the demand of global trade facilitation.

Dr. Misola, also the UNEVOC Philippines-Visayas Center Coordinator and the only Filipino who attended the conference, presented the current state of E-commerce Law in the University, e-learning modules, Republic Act 8792 or the Philippines Electronic Commerce Act of 2002 and the challenges to be able to maximize such opportunities that e-commerce brings.

Aside from sharing ideas, the delegates were given a  chance to visit the China-based Alibaba Group Offices, one of the biggest e-commerce platform in the world.

Enrolment reaches 11, 000 for 1st Sem. AY 2017-2018

The enrolment for all ISAT U campuses for the first semester of Academic Year 2017-2018 reached 11, 068. ISAT U La Paz Campus recorded 6, 387 enrolees; Miagao campus, 2, 572; Leon campus, 920; Barotac Nuevo, 630 and Dumangas campus, 559.

In La Paz Campus, the College of Industrial Technology has the most number of enrolees with 1,765. The College of Engineering and Architecture has 1,226 while the College of Arts and Sciences tallied 1,189. The College of Education recorded 946. The Secondary Laboratory School has 491 including 98 enrolees in the Senior High School’s initial implementation. There were 291 enrolees in the Evening Vocational Courses and 6 cross enrolees. In the Graduate School, 382 enrolled for Masters degree and 91 for the Doctorate degree.

The top five baccalaureate courses which have the most number of enrolees are the Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) with 709; Bachelor of Science (BS) in Information Technology, 633; BS in Hotel and Restaurant Technology, 507; BS in Secondary Education, 345 and Bachelor of Elementary Education, 307.

The BS in Architecture came in sixth with 278 enrolees and followed by BS in Automotive Technology with 277. The Bachelor of Arts in Community Development placed eight with 246 and the BS in Electrical Engineering, 245. The BS in Electronics and Communication Engineering landed in the tenth with 197.

Other courses with their respective number of enrolment are BS in Industrial Education, 160; BS in Mechanical Engineering major in Automotive Engineering, 133;  BS in Computer Science, 130; BS in Electrical Technology, 123; BS in Fashion Design Management, 83; BS in Information System, 72; BS in Electronics Technology, 66; BS in Mathematics, 57; BS In Community Development, 51; Bachelor in Teaching Technical Education, 36. The Enhanced Support Level Program for Marine Engineering (ESLPME) has 241 enrolees while the BS Marine Engineering has 132.

As to the enrolment by discipline, the courses under the engineering and technology cluster got the bulk of enrolment with 2,433. On the other hand, there are 1, 167 enrolees in the education science and teacher training and 909 in the Information Technology (IT) and related discipline. In other disciplines, the marine education has 373; social and behavioral sciences, 297; trade craft and industrial, 291; architecture and town planning, 278; and mathematics, 109.

The university observed the National Disaster Consciousness Month through an earthquake drill participated by the students, faculty and staff on July 13, 2017.

The drill rehearsed the schools preparedness in terms of observing the proper procedure in times of calamities and disasters.

Each offices and classrooms were assigned leaders to direct the proper execution of the “drop, cover, hold” practice, accounting of personnel/classmates and the safe exit to the evacuation area. The drivers on duty were also given task for fast deployment of ambulances and emergency teams.

The ROTC Cadets also demonstrated their crowd control skills and the SAVERS on the different rescue techniques.

Engr. Christian D. Misola, Director, Safety, Security,Environmental Disaster Mitigation Office, said that fire drill and unannounced earthquake drill will be conducted soon to further improve the disaster preparedness ability of the ISAT U academic community.
