The Hotel and Restaurant Technology Department culinary team of Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) won the gold medal in the Regional Seminar and Sabor Bisaya Food Expo and Culinary Competition held at SMX Convention Center, Bacolod City on July 19-21, 2017.
The classic “Linagpang na Pasayan kag Pantat” (grilled prawn and catfish in shrimp paste broth), Buttered Poach Prawn in Adobado Sauce and “Aligi Rice with Prawn” concocted by Kenneth Gregg Bargo, Aldrin Cancillar and Christian Pacino, all fourth year students, outclassed nine other entries from the different colleges and universities in Region VI, Negros Island Region and Dumaguete City in the Chef Wars Category.
Dr. Noli A. Lallen, competition coach, explained that the students were given one hour to prepare a dish with prawn as the main ingredient. “I am proud of their achievement because they were all first timers in the competition and they only have three days to practice,” added Dr. Llalen.
With the theme “Getting the Perfect Combination, ” the event was organized by the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines Western Visayas (COHREP VI) and The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Negros Occidental (HRANO).
The regional convention was also participated by ISAT U Professors Dr, Jeanneth F. Darroca, Prof. Aristeo V. Camis, Prof. Grace S. Valenciana, Prof. Mona Luisa C. de Guzman, Prof. Angeline E. Basco, Dr. Noli A. Lallen and 58 HRT students.
