ISAT U hosts 15th PACUIT nat’l confab

Iloilo Science and Technology University in collaboration with  Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) played host to the 15th Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities of Industrial Technology (PACUIT), Inc. National Conference held on May 3-5, 2017 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City.

With the theme ”Technology Innovation for Sustainable Development Through Global Partnership,” the conference aimed to update the participants of  the current trends on technology innovation for sustainable development through presentation and discussion of topics, researches and studies related to the theme. It also aimed to promote collaborative research, sharing of experience, and knowledge and expertise among educators of industrial technology and provide a venue for members of PACUIT to present their research outputs and effective practices for sustainable development.

ISAT U President Raul F. Muyong and City Administrator  Atty. Hernanado C. Galvez, representing Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog,  welcomed the participants to the conference.

Dr. Ram Hari Lamichhane, Director General, Colombo Plan Staff College,  was the  keynote speaker of the conference.  He focused on the global trend of the workforce, green economy and sustainable development, role of technical education for sustainable development, issues and challenges of sustainable technical education and transforming technical education for sustainable future in message.

Dr. Lamichhane highlighted the partnership for sustainable development and global competitiveness to ensure stable economy and and technological innovation as a must for sustainable development. The role of technical education for sustainable development to mitigate impact of human activity as well as to address ecological crisis were also emphasized. He encouraged higher learning institutions to (1) promote green campus in energy, water utilization and waste management; (2) promote green society by using renewable energy, proper waste management, clean water, forest management and facilitate transfer of green technology; (3) conduct green research and awareness program; and (4) create a green culture with green values, green attitude, green ethics and green practices.

Five topics were also presented in the plenary sessions: (1) ICT for Enhancing the Quality and Accessibility of Industrial Technology Education presented by Prof. Dr. G. Kulanthiavel, CPSC Faculty Consultant; (2) Curriculum Greening in Industrial technology by Dr. Renato M. Sorolla, Pres., Carlos Hilado Memorial State College ;(3) Technology and Patent Search: Method for Technological Innovation by ISAT U VP for Extension and Research Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut; (4) “Technopreneurship as a Catalyst for Industrial Technology Education Reform” by Dr. Godelyn G. Hisole, ISAT U professor and (5) Solar Power Plant Optimization through Automation by Hytech Power, Inc. President Engr. Jude S. Soliman.

Fifty-nine  researches/studies were presented in the parallel sessions by different members of PACUIT during the three-day conference.

A  cultural and  industrial tour  of the participants  around Iloilo City capped the event.

68 Faculty, staff attend int’l seminar in Thailand

A total of 68 faculty and staff from Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) Miagao and Iloilo City Campuses  attended the International  Seminar  on ASEAN Community Collaboration Toward Quality Assurance and Capability Building on April 17-21, 2017 at Panyapiwat Institute of Management, Nonthaburi, Thailand.

A series of lectures and presentations were conducted by participants from ISAT U, St. Theresa International College (STIC) and Panyapiwat Institute of Management (PIM).

Dr. Yongyut Khamkhong, Asst. Dean, Humanities and Social Sciences (STIC) lectured on the topic “Higher Education in Thailand: Toward Enhancing ASEAN Community Collaboration in the Millenium.” The “Quality Assurance in the Philippine Higher Education,” on the other hand was presented by Mrs. Sandra T. Examen, ISAT U Miag-ao Administrator.

The “Technology of Productivity Improvement (Hotel and Restaurant Management)” was discussed by Prof. Nick Alfred T. Umadhay (PIM) while Mr. Weera Bumrungsee, Board of Director, Association of Thailand Travel Agents, gave the overview of “Tourism in Thailand, Biodiversity and Environment Ethics”.

After the presentations, ISAT U participants and 48 other foreign delegates gathered for a capability building activities. They were also treated with a tour  to historical and tourist spots of Thailand.
