The beneficiaries receive the solar lamps (right) equipped with solar panel that can generate power for lighting and charging handheld gadgets.
Four hundred and forty one (441) families from the Municipalities of Ajuy and Conception, Iloilo received solar lamps through Project ISAT U (Improving School Achievement Through Unlimited Power Provision) facilitated by the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) and the Extension Services Division (ESD).
Project ISAT U distributed the solar lamps to students of Punta Buri Elementary School and Nasidman Elementary School in Ajuy on November 9, 2016, and in Balidian Elementary School, Punting Elementary School, David Posadas Sr. Elementary School, and Danao-Danao Elementary School in Conception on November 17.
The project is aimed at helping the pupil beneficiaries who are living in island barangays with limited power supply. The solar lamp that can energize cellular phones and other gadgets allows children to do their school works and study at home during night time.
CEA students were trained by Panasonic Philippines before immersing as trainers of beneficiaries on proper handling and use of the solar lamps.
The project was in cooperation with Jollibee Group Foundation and was supported by the Municipality of Ajuy and Conception and the Department of Education.
