AACCUP visits BACD, BSE Programs

The Bachelor of Arts in Community Development (BACD) under the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), Main Campus and the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSE), Miagao Campus underwent survey visit for Level IV Phase 2 and Level III Phase 2 accreditation respectively at the New Board Room on December 5.

The Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) team of accreditors was headed by  Dr. Manuel T. Corpuz, AACCUP Founder and Executive Director.

Western Philippine University President Dr Elsa P. Manarpaac lead the team for BACD evaluation while Dr. Boyet L. Batang of Isabela State University for the BSE accreditation.

The narrative reports for the BACD area on research, performance of graduates, community service, international linkages and consortia and well developed planning process were presented to the accreditors while the BSE’s includes review on curriculum and instruction, extension and community involvement, research and faculty development.

The BSE is the first discipline in Miagao Campus to have reached the current level of accreditation.

CIT, ESD, CEA conduct skills training at Sta. Barbara, Ajuy, Dingle

With the purpose of augmenting the beneficiaries’ livelihood capabilities, the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) and the Extension Services Division (ESD) conducted skills training at Ajuy and Sta. Barbara Iloilo.

Dr. Madeline U. Subosa of the HRT spearheaded the 10-day Skills Training in Cooking at Brgy. Agutayan-Lupa Elementary School on July 16-October 8, 2016. Fifteen non-working mothers were trained to prepare street foods, main dishes and other delicacies.

University President Dr. Raul F. Muyong, who started his teaching career at this school, donated two double-burner gas stoves and cashed out 3 thousand pesos from his pocket as a start-up capital for the livelihood project.

In cooperation with Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), the CIT also conducted skills development on preventive maintenance on small gas and diesel engine, and a beauty culture training in manicure, pedicure and hair styling and treatment dubbed “Kagandahan Mo, Kabuhayan Ko” at Philippines ADRA Training Center at Ajuy, Iloilo on October 20 -28, 2016 .

Another skills training in Basic Electrical Wiring was organized by CEA Extension Council at Dingle Central Elementary School on November 21.

Aside from the livelihood training, the ESD also conducted  “Mahiwagang Kulay, Para sa Maginhawang Buhay”, a pot painting training activity as bridge course for children’s development at ISAT U New Site Building on November 12, 2016.

ESD, CEA distribute solar lamps to 441 families

Four hundred and forty one (441) families from the Municipalities of Ajuy and Conception, Iloilo received solar lamps through Project ISAT U (Improving School Achievement Through Unlimited Power Provision) facilitated by the College of Engineering and Architecture  (CEA) and the Extension Services Division (ESD).

Project ISAT U  distributed the solar lamps to students of Punta Buri Elementary School and Nasidman Elementary School in Ajuy on November 9, 2016, and in Balidian Elementary School, Punting Elementary School, David Posadas Sr. Elementary School, and Danao-Danao Elementary School in Conception on November 17.

The project is aimed at helping the pupil beneficiaries who are living in island barangays with limited power supply. The solar lamp that can energize cellular phones and other gadgets allows children to do their school works and study at home during night time.

CEA students were trained by Panasonic Philippines before immersing as trainers of beneficiaries on proper handling and use of the solar lamps.

The project was in cooperation with Jollibee Group Foundation and was supported by the Municipality of Ajuy and Conception and the Department of Education.
