Two professors brought honors to the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) during the Western Visayas Agricultural Research and Development Consortium (WESVAARDEC) 26th Regional Symposium on Research and Development on October 21, 2016 at the West Visayas State University (WVSU).
Prof. Francis S. Legario emerged as champion with his research on “Extracellular Enzyme and Antimicrobial Activities of Cellulolytic Bacteria from the Gut of Black Sturgeon” besting 12 other entries. Prof. Legario’s study attempts to discover beneficial bacteria in the diverse microflora of the gastrointestinal tracts of the fish.
Prof. Joselito Trandeo P. Mendoza, who was a part of a team of faculty members from the West Visayas State University (WVSU) consisting of Pastor Jones T. Denusta, Bernice P. Maliao and Edna P. Abunal, placed first runner-up. The team’s collaborative study on “Species Composition and Length-Weight Relationship of Fishes in Tigum River,” will provide data helpful for the fish conservation in the river.
Completing the top three researches was the study on “Biological Control of Fruit Flies Using Beauveria bassiana through Autodissemination.”
