In order to help save the dying art of hand weaving using native indigenous fabrics, nine graduating students of Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design and Merchandising of the University displayed their creations of fashionable garments during the 9th Fiber Fashion Fair at SM City Activity Center last August 3 to 7, 2016.

The event is one of the highlights of the Fiber Week Celebration sponsored by the Office of Culture, Arts, History and Tourism of the Iloilo Provincial Government. Featured in this year’s celebration is the Indigenous Fiber Fashion.

By reason of being the only school in Western Visayas that offers  Fashion and Apparel courses, ISAT U was  the only school invited to participate the celebration.

Aside from showing their trendy and modernized creations, the students were also privileged to see the creative works  of professional designer Daryl Amar and attended his lecture. Amar  is an alumnus of ISAT U and became successful in his fashion business at his hometown in Leon, Iloilo.

The  event aimed to educate the public the value of hand woven fabrics especially hablon, patadyong, polyhemp and jusi. The use of hand woven fabrics is fading and according to the students their participation is a part of their effort in saving the dying art.
