Two hundred thirty-seven men and four women taking up Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BS Mar-E) with Completed Academic Requirements (CAR) received their certificates during the Launching Ceremony.
The students' launching ceremony, held after three years of basic education, was on March 27, 2015 at the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) gym.
The activity served as a ceremony for the students' upcoming one-year shipboard/technical training. The students will come back for their graduation after completing the one-year apprenticeship.
Of the 18 students who were awarded medals and certificates during the ceremony, five were honor students and 13 were with academic merit.
The honor students were Emerson Eucogco- first honors; Cipriano Delideli- second honors; Cyvel Palma- third honors; Mikko John Sarate- fourth honors; Robert Aduana- fifth honors; and Jonas Perida- sixth honors.
Students with academic merit, on the other hand, were Jason Albay, Edmund Almirante, Joenel Arenga, Gevron Bagonoc, Mark Beton, Loujen Dela Cruz, Jessierey Lomibao, Mike Mortales, Philip Ortigosa, Ryan Paniza, Shawn Michael Percy, and John Patryck Solinap.
Gregorio Perez, Jr., this year's speaker, gave students a glimpse of how life is as a Marine Engineer.He also told the students to prepare themselves for hardships.
"Social skills are important in your field," Said Perez. He also shared a quote from confucius, "wherever you go, go with your heart."
Meanwhile, Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut, VP for Research and Extension (VPRE), delivered his message with a smile on his face. The students, according to him, inspired him.
Dr. Ambut emphasized the ideas of love, life, faith and death with a song for each concept. He also encouraged students to go out and bring love to the world.
Shipping companies affiliated to the school were also present such as the Leonis Navigation Company, Rederei Clauss- Peter Often/ C.F. Sharp, Inc., Nordic-Hamburg/ Scanmar Maritime Services, Inc., and the NS United Marine Philippine, Inc.
