WVCST launches BS MarE studes for apprenticeship

Two hundred thirty-seven men and four women taking up Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BS Mar-E) with Completed Academic Requirements (CAR) received their certificates during the Launching Ceremony.

The students' launching ceremony, held after three years of basic education, was  on March 27, 2015 at the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) gym.

The activity served as a ceremony for the students' upcoming one-year shipboard/technical training. The students will come back for their graduation after completing the one-year apprenticeship.

Of the 18 students who were awarded medals and certificates during the ceremony, five were honor students and 13 were with academic merit.

The honor students were Emerson Eucogco- first honors; Cipriano Delideli- second honors; Cyvel Palma- third honors; Mikko John Sarate- fourth honors; Robert Aduana- fifth honors; and Jonas Perida- sixth honors.

Students with academic merit, on the other hand, were Jason Albay, Edmund Almirante, Joenel Arenga, Gevron Bagonoc, Mark Beton, Loujen Dela Cruz, Jessierey Lomibao, Mike Mortales, Philip Ortigosa, Ryan Paniza, Shawn Michael Percy, and John Patryck Solinap.

Gregorio Perez, Jr., this year's speaker, gave students a glimpse of how life is as a Marine Engineer. He also told the students to prepare themselves for hardships.

"Social skills are important in your field," Said Perez. He also shared a quote from confucius, "wherever you go, go with your heart."

Meanwhile, Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut, VP for Research and Extension (VPRE), delivered his message with a smile on his face. The students, according to him, inspired him.

Dr. Ambut emphasized the ideas of love, life, faith and death with a song for each concept. He also encouraged students to go out and bring love to the world.

Shipping companies affiliated to the school were also present such as the Leonis Navigation Company, Rederei Clauss- Peter Often/ C.F. Sharp, Inc., Nordic-Hamburg/ Scanmar Maritime Services, Inc., and the NS United Marine Philippine, Inc.

Incoming CEA freshmen to undergo math enrichment program

Incoming first year Engineering and Architecture students of the college will undergo a Mathematics Enrichment Program  consisting of lectures on college algebra and trigonometry on May 19-24, 2015.

The  enrichment program aims to equip freshmen students of the Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE), Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Major in Major in Autmotive Engineering (BSMEAE), and the Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BSArch) with a better understanding and proper usage of the language, symbols and notation of mathematics.

The Gender and Development (GAD) program has proposed continuous enrichment and tutorial sessions for the students  because a high number of first year College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) students fail in their major subjects.

Since the start of the program in the first semester of the academic year 2013-2014, it has resulted in the decrease of the drop-out rates  of students and a minimal number of students failed in their math subjects.

The schedule of activities are as follows
