APP seminar held

Fifty-one college office staff and faculty attended a whole day APP System hands-on Seminar on the computerization of the Annual Procurement Plan (APP), held at Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) Copy Shoppe on December 2, 2014.

The seminar was conducted to orient the participants on how to use the APP system in order to solve the problem of consolidating items for the APP.

The Annual Procurement Plan System will also generate summary report and details of every office or department.

“The good thing about the system is that we can also generate the program procurement management plan (PPMP),”said Dr. Russ Allen Napud in his opening remarks.

Mr. Ned Cababasay, head of the Management Information System/ Encoding Data Processing Department (MIS/EDP), served as the trainer of the said seminar.

The APP system was developed by the Management Information System/ Data Processing Encoding (MIS/EDP).

Hand-outs and snacks were also given during the seminar and lunch was served at the new board room as well.

Other previous seminars such as Google, Document Tracking were also conducted by the staff of the MIS/EDP.

IBPAP representatives orient students

Three hundred seventy-five students attended an orientation on the use of the Basic English Skills Training (BEST) Software conducted by the IT & Business Processing Association of the Philippines (IBPAP).

 

The orientation, was held at Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) Hotel and Restaurant Technology (HRT) Service Center, on December 3.

Mr. Ray Anthony Santos, one of the representatives, discussed the use of the software and its benefits. The development of the four macro skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading) in English was the focus of the said software.

Participants were the Second, Third, and Fourth year WVCST students taking up Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIF) and the Bachelor of Science in Information System (BSIS).

The courses were chosen following CHED’s program for Information Technology Education (ITE) students.

“The primary benefit (of the BEST software) is that you get to study English on your own, on your own time, and at your convenience,” said Mr. Santos.

The orientation was held in two batches. The first batch started at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 11:00a.m., with the BSIS 2-A, BSIF 2-A, 3-A, and 4-b students as participants.

Students from the BSIS 3-A, BSIF 2-A, 3-B,4-A, BSCS 3-A and 4-A attended the afternoon session of the orientation from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Other IBPAP representatives present were Miss Mary Joy Dagohoy and Miss Arra Arielle Uri.

The different training tracks of BEST were attended by selected teachers of WVCST in October held in West Visayas State University (WVSU).

RQAT visits WVCST

The Regional Quality Assurance Team (RQAT) of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) visited the school last November 26, 2014.

The said visitation was for Western Visayas College of Science and Technology’s (WVCST) university bid and for its completion of the certificate of program compliance.

In its second visit, the RQAT approved the three programs of the college. These are the Bachelor of Science in Education major in Mathematics (BSED-Math), Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Services Technology (BSHRST), and the Bachelor of Science in Community Development (BSCD) programs of the main campus and external campuses.

The programs were approved after an evaluation on the areas of administration and faculty, curriculum and instructional standards, laboratories and libraries, physical facilities, student services, research programs and linkages.

 “We are all positive that we will achieve the University Status,” said Dr. Manuel A. Sanchez Jr. in his closing speech.

Dr. Efren Sucaldito, Dr. Gina Montes, Dr. Rogelio Borro, Professor Nilo Bolaño, and Dr. Joven de Guzman were the members of RQAT’s second visitation.

WVCST Inter-campus tournament held

The Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST)-Main Campus emerged as champion in the inter-campus tournament last November 21-23, 2014.

The WVCST main campus bagged the first place in the Basketball, Chess and Volleyball (men and women) while the male athletes won in table tennis, Football, Sepak Takraw, and Tae Kwon Do.

Athletes from Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College (SIPC) gave their best shot and won in the athletics, swimming and beach volleyball (women and men).

Before the games started, a program was held at WVCST main campus covered gym last November 21, 2014 with the presence of the key officials of WVCST, athletes and their coaches.

The said three-day tournament was participated in by sport delegates from the WVCST-Main Campus and external campuses namely, Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College (SIPC), Purification Dolar Monfort College (PDMC), Don Jose Sustiquer Monfort Memorial National College (DJSMMNC), and Leon National College of Agriculture (LNCA).

This inter-campus tournament is held yearly to select athletes who will represent WVCST in the Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Olympics.
