Sen. Pia Cayetano Visits WVCST

With the Senate sessions on recess now, Senator Pia Cayetano is taking the opportunity to visit State Universities and Colleges around the country and WVCST is privileged enough to be chosen as one of her destinations in Iloilo.

The Senator, together with her staff came on Friday, June 20, 2014 and had a talk with the WVCST students.  According to her, she, too came from an SUC and had to work hard on her studies. She encouraged the students to train themselves well. “Put your best foot forward, never give up and you can never go wrong.” Senator Pia Cayetano also entertained a few questions from the students on some issues.

As the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture, Senator Cayetano goes around SUCs and campaigns for support on the Strengthening of the Ladderized Education which is the Technical-Vocational Education and Training and Higher Education. This system according to her addresses the present compartmentalization of tech-voc and college degree programs that hinders the recognition to accreditation of tech-voc competencies in college degree programs and vice versa. Fortunately, this system has been long practiced in WVCST through the effort of Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr, the former WVCST President, now the WVSU President.

The lawmaker on the other hand had a short tour in the campus and was impressed with the research, innovations and technology of the College presented to her by the researchers, scientists and inventors of WVCST. Some of these are the bike with shock absorber generator, ISUY Robot, the animated program used by TESDA to teach mathematical concepts and many more.
