WVCST Generates Income from Intellectual Properties

Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) continually empowers its faculty and researchers through its Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO). These support offices enable them to maintain and improve research activities in the College.

From 2008 to the present, the College has been able to generate a gross income of Php 5, 924, 848 from instructional materials and software-developed systems. The faculty authored twenty-eight (28) instructional materials that were published and commercialized by the College. At present, more instructional materials are being prepared for publication. The College is also expanding its sales not only to WVCST students but also to students of other higher education institutions in Region VI and hopefully, the whole country.

Last October 2013, the College entered into an agreement with a higher education institution in Region VI, the University of Antique, on its use of the WVCST copyrighted management information system (MIS). This system provides an effective and efficient delivery of information services to the stakeholders in academic institutions. The agreement was signed last November 11, 2013 stipulating a total contract price of Php 2.5 million. The College estimates the potential market of this technology to include around one hundred (100) higher education institutions in the Philippines.

WVCST credits the faculty and the external agencies for the attainment of its goals on intellectual property generation, protection, dissemination and commercialization. The untiring support of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPhil), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) continues to inspire this academe to create intellectual properties and utilize them for the greater good.
