Western Visayas College of Science and Technology was declared winner in the 4th Best Public Sector Projects Award or BPSPA 2014.
The entry entitled “Community Welfare Through Culture of Collaboration” won in the category of the SUCs in which all 12 SUCs in Region 6 participated.
The project which is known as Busog Lusog Talino is a joint feeding program of Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, the Jollibee Group Foundation and the Local Government Unit. This was implemented to 21 public elementary schools in the city as well as to 9 municipalities in the Province of Iloilo for 136 days feeding cycle to Grades 1 and 2 pupils who were severely wasted. Because of the collaboration of the three sectors, the project became a success.
The College received a trophy and a cash award of Php 50,000.00. Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr., Dr. Nehema K. Misola, VPAF and Dr. Carmelo V. Ambot, VPRE and Engr. Cora Corbal, Director, Extension Services Program, were also given plaques of Commendation for their active involvement in the project implementation.
The awarding ceremony was held last April 1, 2014, at Smallville 21 Hotel. Secretary Florencio B. Abad of the Department of Budget and Management was the guest of honor during the ceremony.
The Best Public Sector Projects Award is given by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and the Regional Development Council (RDC) to the different sectors in the society through the three categories namely the SUCs, LGUs and Government agencies.
