Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation Nos. 224 and 227 and R.A. 6949, declaring the month of March as National Women’s Month, Western Visayas College of Science and Technology is celebrating Women’s Day today, March 6, 2014.
The celebration spearheaded by the Gender and Development Office, kicked off as early as 7:00 am with Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Breast Examination, Reflexology and other health services conducted at the Multi Purpose Educational Center. The faculty and staff took time to avail of the free health services and of discounted health products offered by Medicus Phils. Incorporated.
A lecture on Breast Cancer was also conducted in the morning with Dr. Aireen Enesa, Primary Care Physician on Family Medicine of Medicus. The lecture was then followed by an open forum participated in by students as well as the faculty and employees of the College.
As part of the celebration, Dr. Allen Russ Napud, Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture, gave honors to women of today by acknowledging the strength and power of women in the society and in inspiring other women to overcome obstacles in life.
The women who attended the lecture were also serenaded by a newly formed band of professors from the College of Education and College of Arts and Sciences.
Also featured in the celebration is the Bazaar at the Ed Tech Center where commodities for women are sold at discounted prices.
